Jaco Smit was born in Cape Town, South Africa and grew up next to the Indian and Atlantic Ocean. His love for nature made him explore the ocean and he started scuba diving in the late 1980īs. In 1993 he became a diving instructor and owned his own dive center till 1996 before working in the Maldives and Caribbean. Jacoīs interest in the underwater world made him experiment with underwater filming and he has continued this line of work for nearly 20 years. As a Scuba Instructor he has been teaching Underwater Videography for several years and filmed on many locations including the cold waters of Cape Town, tropical islands of the Maldives and Caribbean and the spectacular Red Sea in Egypt. Thereto he has also filmed for customers such as the BBC and Discovery Channel (Sharks of the Wild Coast) as well as for many other productions. One of his favorite tasks was to film the great white sharks of the coast of South Africa without being in a cage. This made him realize that we have an ocean we have to protect for our future generation and like Jean-Michel Cousteau said: "We humans have the ability to appreciate and understand with all our senses. Beyond these remain only our actions." Now living in Switzerland Jaco concentrates on Video Editing, Graphic Design and Multimedia as well as travelling the world to explore and film exciting holiday destinations both above and below sealevel. www.blue-concepts.com |
